Spirulina the superfood that delivers!

You may have herd of Spirulina before, you may have not. Chances are if you’ve herd of it you were watching some ridiculous show like Selling Sunset on Netflix or Real Housewives of wherever and the girl in the show ordered her anorexia shake with some extra Spirulina.

Here’s the truth. Spirulina is indeed viewed as a super food and there are a lot of people who swear by it. The fact of the matter is there is no large amount of studies done to show its real benefits. But as I’ve written about before there may be a reason there are not a lot of studies done.

I strongly believe and we can use the last 3 years as proof that studies for these holistic supplements and foods have deliberately not been done. By putting lots of money into these studies companies would then have to admit that there are more natural and superior products available to consumers thus affecting profits.

That’s why last time I wrote about mushroom cordycepts there was little scientific evidence and the same goes with Spirulina. You have to really look and consult with naturopathic doctors and health food experts to really get the information.

But….. Those who regularly use the products notice and swear by their benefits. Spirulina is one of them that I use regularly and swear by.

Let’s start by talking about what Spirulina is. Fancy word, but it simply is an algae found in water. Spirulina is commonly cultivated from large or small bodies of water such as lakes or farmed in ponds. It originally was used by the ancient Aztecs and later became popular again when NASA proposed it can be grown in outer space for use by our astronauts.

Let me take a quick second and bore you with some statistics.

Spirulina holds a huge nutrient dense profile

-          Vitamins A,C & K

-          Several B vitamin’s (B1,B2,B3)

-          Magnesium

-          Phosphorus

-          Calcium

-          Folate

-          Potassium

-          Iron

-          Copper

-          Omega free fatty acids

So what does all that good old nutrients help me with Ashton?

Here is another awesome list to bore you with!

Spirulina health benefits include

-          High antioxidant support

-          Reduction/regulation of blood pressure

-          Blood sugar control

-          Some indications it helps reduce cancer risk

-          Lowers cholesterol levels

-          Liver health

-          Reduction in metabolic syndrome (fancy way of saying things that make you fat and unhealthy)

-          Reduce Obesity

-          Reasonably good protein source which is what many vegetarians and vegans use it to supplement.

Up until this past year I ate dairy freely. I did not drink a glass of milk a day like our good old TV commercials still recommend (rolls eyes) but I had pizza when I wanted. I ate cheese and all the other good old dairy stuff i.e. Yogurt. I realized this year after a boiling point with my stomach and overall health I was intolerant.  For years I consumed dairy…. For those who consume dairy you know it comes with its share of issues. For me it was phlegm and mucus. I would constantly be plagued with this.

When I began to regularly take Spirulina those symptoms gradually disappeared. I began to have less phlegm and mucus build-up.

For years I suffered with seasonal allergies and the challenges that come with it. All of a sudden things like nasal congestion, nasal discharge and sneezing were dramatically reduced.

It turns out one of the amazing effects of spirluina is it is a popular alternative treatment for allergic rhinitis (fancy word for regular old allergies)

After discovering this amazing benefit of spirluina I immediately regularly used it. Especially when I felt myself coming down with a cold, fever or any sickness in general. My wife and I all of a sudden became Real Housewives and would down Spirulina shots when we are feeling under the weather.

(DISCLAIMER) Now I do not have any specific local studies to back this claim but there is research overseas coming from Israel and Iceland that have linked spirluina use to reduction in COVID-19 symptoms?

I may not be able to find any mass studies or lengthy research on it but I do have real life experience with this. When my wife and I caught COVID we got that good old Delta strain. So it came on strong. For the first few hours it was rough but right away when we realized what we were dealing with we went to our supplements. I was downing glasses of spirluina like I was a fish in the water.  Within 48 hours most of my really brutal congestion cleared up. Within 7 days I was mucus and phlegm free. While we did have some other lingering effects from COVID the immediate threat of mucus and phlegm build-up (a killer of some) was eliminated thanks to this nifty little green powder.

I caught COVID again earlier this year and right away before I started experiencing serious symptoms I began my Spirulina binge. This time within 24 hours I was congestion and phlegm free and over the COVID in a day and a half.

I do believe more evidence and anecdotal evidence for this is out there. Now that we are passing over the censorship phase when it comes to COVID information and natural treatments I do believe we will start to see other natural substances like Spirulina begin to be used to treat symptoms. We may not get to see those studies in North America because of big pharma but I do trust in science and do believe these treatments will become widely used to help people all over the world as soon as there is more evidence to support.

Long story short make this supplement a purchase you make. With very little side effects used regularly you will see some amazing results. If you don’t feel like taking it regularly then at least keeps it around for when you get sick. I promise it will help improve your overall feeling of Awesomeness!

That’s it for me till next time!
